A solid story about your experiences with ‘Save the Children in Uganda, or is it a docu about ‘Save the Children’ in Uganda? Either way, it flowed nicely and left the taste that development aid does accomplish some good things, and you were a part of that effort. Good job! Good work there! I thought the pix of the little boy with the pencil was absolutely stunning and told your story in one image!!

Will, you seem drawn to social issues, and that sincerity and passion pump through your presentations. In your Uganda piece, you put us in the place, sat us in the circle, personalized a culture, helped us to feel empathy for a people and share in the hope. Couple that with fabulous images (a reminder to us all of the importance to keep snapping away, to document our personal journies), and you’ve got a near perfect advocacy piece. You do this very effectively — and thus do great service for your subjects. I hope we’ll see more media advocacy from you.

Sounds like you’ve had lots of valuable and unusual experiences! i’ve also done quite a bit of development media work, and therein my heart still lies. it’s one excellent way to ‘give back’ by aiming to increase awareness of poverty and the struggle of so many people for the basics of life.

Will – I loved the photography in your piece, and how the images were ordered to make the story. Very inspiring. I imagine that you have lots of photos and all manner of stories from your work and travels abroad that it would great to see you share in this format. Perhaps some additional background audio – literal noises? music? in future versions to give it even more richness.

On the other hand, the United States pavilion is an embarrassment that looks like an ugly airplane hangar…or the butt-end of a tacky shopping mall. Nearly all of the other countries managed to pull together something exciting. I would love to attend this World Expo.

i have the purple one!!!! it was raining the other day when i was leaving from work and i was sooo excited to finally use my new umbrella. there was a woman walking in front of me who didn’t have an umbrella at all–so, i offered to share mine with her. the first thing she said was wow this is such a beautiful umbrella–she was even more impressed when i told her where i got if from! i wish i had one of each–they are just so beautiful..

Hey Will. I like the radio podcast. I feel the same way about the sterilization of manhattan. I remember even in the mid 90′s when I was just starting to visit the city that it had a much different vibe. I loved going to the village then but much has changed. The artists are being pushed out and the ecclectic scene is diminished. Hope all is well and see you soon. Peace.

it would be like a dream to visit this museum. i would especially love to see the artifacts that were discovered during the construction. and, i am sure the britains can figure out a safe way to return the marbles…how would they like it if someone stole a piece of their history and then displayed it in another country…it is time for britian to make history right.

pic # 7 is amazing! silent disco and the dig (esp. the hard hats, lol). i love the fact that NY purchased the island for 1 buck and that it is only a minuut 5 ferry ride away from Manhattan.

Having recently been there, I can say Mykonos is as beautiful and fabulous as ever! Lots of fun from morning to night. It’s definitely more expensive than the other Greek islands (except Santorini) but it’s well worth it. I also love that Mykonos is not overrun by baby strollers the way Ibiza has become….this is still an adults’ playground and totally unique in the world.

for me, the most interesting aspect about this project is that the first 5 floors will be for a public elementary school and the remaining 71 floors will be for apartment living. i wonder how my primary education would have been shaped, knowing that each day i would get to go to a “shinny, spectacular, and space ship looking skyscraper place” to learn my math, reading, and science. i bet that i would have been really excited to go to school everyday. oh, and just to live in one of those apartments would be an absolute dream. but, i wonder if the teachers that will be teaching at the school will be able to afford living in those apartments. but, yeah, just the the construction of the pointed bay windows have me sold…

Beautiful written and really informative! I didn’t know about this building or much about Gehry. I gotta say that I’m upset by the location of the high-rise though, I wish downtown Manhattan would retain its historic buildings and put a cap on the height of new buildings.

Great photo! This is one of the best new public spaces created in New York in a very long time.
What really impresses me is the different perspective you get from up there while looking at the cityscape. I’m looking forward to the completion of the second segment next year!
